When our Bing™ teams were looking to develop unprecedented levels of search personalisation and localisation, they knew we needed the best program managers, software engineers and software test engineers across Europe. Each of our three Search Technology Centres (STC's) will focus on developing a leading search product for their own market.

But, each centre will also specialise in a particular area of search to be applied across Europe: Whole page Relevance and Verticals in London (improvements to layout, display of results, and homepage, as well as delivering instant answers to popular searches); Relevance in Munich (ensuring that the most relevant web results are produced for all languages), and Local Search in Paris (exploring local content onboarding, and delivering the locally most relevant results in multiple domains).

With top priorities being to index every database in the world and build a rich user interface to search billions of documents, carry out multiple searches at once and deliver almost instantaneous results, we recognised we were creating software engineering jobs that were going to challenge the hardiest of search professionals.

Just some of the skill sets we need at Bing™ include C/C++ and C# programming skills, solid Object Oriented design skills, machine learning, information retrieval, or data mining skills - preferably gained on very large-scale datasets or web applications.
